And so it begins....
It can be challenging to think about the festival when there is two feet of snow on the ground and the temperature is hovering at -5 degrees. That being said, initial planning began in September last year. Now, since it is 2017, serious planning begins.
I'm so glad to have a core group of folks that are dedicated to making the festival successful. After all, the festival is the major funding source for our little community. If the festival is successful, the village is successful.
So, on January 24th, we will take all the initial work we have done, come together as a committee, and look at the remaining mountain of work. Then we will start divvying up the assignments into chew-able sized pieces of elephant.
It always seems so overwhelming at the beginning, but we have gotten quite good at getting it all done over the last 28 years. And because, deep down, we know we will do it again, each year we try at least something new, to make it more enjoyable for our visitors and our performers.
The last few years we have noticed folks coming to Yellow Pine a few days earlier than the festival. So last year we started the Idaho Harmonica Workshop. The participants (and instructors) had so much fun, they begged us to do it again. So we will. And we lowered the price!
This year we are adding a pre-festival 5k Fun Run and Midas Gold tours of their work in Stibnite. Other activities are also in the works.
We will also have two performance venues and are bringing back the Crowd Pleaser Contest.
I get so excited about the festival just talking about it that I can hardly wait to get into the serious planning! I'll post more after the meeting. Deb
